4 trekking paths that must not be missed in Ledro Valley

The Ledro Valley offers many paths of medium difficulty for trekking and high mountain lovers: we have chosen four, which will enable you to admire the panoramic views of the most beautiful peaks in the area.

Each one of these excursions is challenging and needs to be addressed with the right level of knowledge and with special attention to atmospheric conditions. Let’s discover them together!

Punta Larici: a balcony on Garda Lake

The proximity to Garda Lake makes it possible many panoramic excursions and one of the most beautiful hikes is certainly one that leads to the famous Punta Larici.

The paths starts from the little church of Pregasina and it continues through the woods, up to the ruins of Malga Larici where there is a path that leads to a real terrace on Garda Lake.

The overall duration of this excursion of medium difficulty is approximately 2 hours, for a total of 5,3 km, with a difference in height of about 330 meters.

Ponale Road: the old road of the Ledro Valley

This is a classic path for people which visit the upper Garda area and want to enjoy a breathtaking hike, on foot or by bike, overlooking the lake.

The path follows the old Ponale road that from Riva del Garda climbed into the Ledro Valley, offering foreshortenings of lake, tunnels and old fortifications of the Great War.

For tourists already in the Ledro Valley, the starting point is the village of Pregasina. It is an easy hike and the length of the route to Riva del Garda is about 4,5 km that can be followed in one hour and a half, with a difference in height of about 300 meters.

A part of the path runs through old muletracks that lead to the old road’s entrance. Following the whole road, you will reach the Riva del Garda hydroelectric power plant that you should visit and, in return, you don’t miss a break on the terrace of the Belvedere Ponale bistro!

As an alternative to the ascent on foot, you can take the bus from Riva del Garda to the Ledro Valley.

Bocca di Saval: the Ledro Valley mountains

The excursion to Bocca di Saval is more challenging than the previous paths and leads us to the discovery of the Alpi Ledrensi mountains which frame the Ledro Valley.

The starting point is in Pieve di Ledro, at the tourist office. From here, follow the steep path n.454 that climbs the Monte Cocca slopes, up to the pastures around Malga Saval and then up to 1749 meters of Bocca di Saval.

The excursion lasts 3 hours and a half, with 6 km one way and, along its 1000 meters in altitude, you can admire the mountain pastures of the valley and the old military hospital in Saval.

For those who would like to make a ring route, it is possible to start from Malga Trat, go by Nino Pernici Refuge and Bocca di Saval following the path n. 413.

Cima Parì: a breathtaking view

With its 1988 meters, Cima Parì is the highest peak in the Alpi Ledrensi mountains: therefore, this excursion is suitable for high mountain lovers. On a clear day, it is even possible to see Venice with breathtaking panoramas both over Lake Ledro and Lake Garda.

The path, unmarked but well recognized, starts from Bocca di Saval (that can be reached as described in the preceding itinerary) and, after about 1 ½ km and 200 meters in altitude, it leads to the peak.

Alternatively, you can follow the path n. 435 from Malga Trat to Saval and you can go back following the path n. 413, leading back to Malga Trat and going by Nino Pernici Refuge, for a total of 9 km of route length.
